    Pastor Perry Noble states, “As leaders, we have to understand that people are our greatest asset and therefore our greatest investment.”  For the past 20 years, Sid Taylor has made people his priority through church ministry and through public education.    Mr. Taylor graduated from George County High School in 1993.  He received his Associates Degree from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.  He then received his Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Southern Mississippi and Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Arkansas State University.   Before moving back to his hometown of Lucedale, Mr. Taylor traveled throughout the country as a speaker and musical vocalist.   In 2006, Sid felt the call to return home to George County to fulfill his longtime desire of being an educational leader for his hometown school district.  Since then, he has taught at the elementary level, middle school level, and now serves as an administrator for his alma mater.    It has been a full-circle moment for him.   He looks forward to continuing to serve the people of George County as an educational leader and mentor.  It is his desire to make a difference in the life of each student that he is able to serve at George County High School.

    Jennifer Mathis graduated from George County High School in 1995. She earned a
    Bachelor’s Degree in Microbiology from Mississippi State University in 1999. She then
    earned a Master’s of Business Administration from William Carey University in 2001.
    She became National Board Certified in 2010 and earned a Specialist’s Degree in
    Educational Leadership in 2014. She is currently working on her Doctorate Degree in
    Educational Leadership.

    Mrs. Mathis began teaching at George County High School in 2001 and taught

    Mathematics for sixteen years. During this time she was named George County School
    District Teacher of the Year and George County High School Teacher of the Year in
    2009 and 2017. She was named Star Teacher for 2009, 2016, and 2017.

    Mrs. Mathis is the District New Teacher Academy Director and is a Southern Regional
    Educational Board Certified Trainer in the Mathematic Design Collaborative. She loves
    helping students and studying the design of curriculum, instruction, and student
    engagement. She and her husband, Jeff,  have two
    children, Jase and Jenna.

    Jeff Mathis graduated High School in 1995 and attended Jones County Junior College and completed his Associates of Science Degree.  He then transferred to Mississippi State University and earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Forest Resources in 2000.  He worked for Georgia Pacific in Forest Management from 2000-2007. 

     

    In 2007, Mr. Mathis began teaching Forestry at George County High School.  He earned his Master of Science in Educational Leadership in 2013 from Arkansas State University.  He then transferred to Central Elementary School as Assistant Principal for two years.  He transferred back to George County High School in 2015 as the Assistant Career and Technical Education Director.  He is currently the Career and Technical Education Director.

    Darlene Hearndon graduated from Purvis High School in 1987.  She moved to Lucedale in 1990 and has made George County her home.  She and her husband, Rodney, have three daughters.  


    Mrs. Hearndon earned an Associate’s of Arts degree from MS Gulf Coast Community College in 2000 and graduated from the University of Southern MS in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education.  After teaching several years, Mrs. Hearndon resumed her education at USM and graduated with a Master of Education degree in Educational Leadership in 2006.  Prior to becoming the Assistant Director of the Career Technical Education program at GCHS, Mrs. Hearndon spent 14 years at GCMS as Teacher, Librarian, and School Test Coordinator.


    Mrs. Hearndon and her family enjoy spending time camping, boating, and vacationing.
