Introduction to Engineering Design is the foundational semester course for the PLTW (Project Lead the Way) Engineering curriculum. In IED students are introduced to the different disciplines of the engineering profession including mechanical, chemical, electrical, and civil engineering. Students will also analyze and apply an engineering design process which is the common approach for solving engineering problems. The IED curriculum also involves the basics of drafting which includes activities in blueprint reading, drafting, and computer-aided drafting. Students will apply all of these elements with hands-on projects in class such as robot and bridge building competitions. During the semester, students will also be visited by engineers from the Chevron Refinery which is also our partner and sponsor for PLTW Introduction to Engineering Design course.
